About factorymaker

factorymaker is building AI design agents for the industrial world. We turn complex factory and infrastructure planning into intelligent, data-driven decision systems. We connect building, process, and site data within an intelligent decision space that enables companies to solve complex operational and strategic challenges in a data-driven way. Our technology automates analysis, planning, and optimization processes and transforms infrastructure into an active performance lever instead of a static cost factor. In this way, we help industrial companies use space more efficiently, improve workflows, and make well-informed investment decisions. We are a Vienna-based deep-tech company building the next generation of AI-powered decision and optimization systems for industrial organizations.

Your Role

You take on the technical leadership in the area of AI-based design agents and optimization systems. In close collaboration with the CTO, you lead our Research & Development team and drive the further development of our core technology. You act both as a technical architect and an active developer: you design complex optimization and decision models, contribute hands-on to their development, and ensure that our systems are robust, scalable, and production-ready. Your focus lies on building intelligent design agents, advancing our layout and optimization software, and integrating human-in-the-loop algorithms.

Responsibilities

  • Technical leadership of the AI and optimization domain

  • Architecture and further development of our design agent systems

  • Development of optimization algorithms (e.g., layout, capacity, material flow optimization)

  • Implementation of human-in-the-loop mechanisms

  • Active contribution to the codebase (backend, algorithms, system design)

  • Further development of system architecture and performance

  • Evaluation of new AI methods and research approaches

  • Mentoring and professional leadership of the R&D team

  • Ensuring technical excellence and innovation capability

Requirements (Must-Haves)

  • Several years of experience in AI-, optimization-, or algorithm-driven software development

  • Software engineering/ data science degree or equivalent

  • Strong foundation in algorithms, mathematical optimization, or simulation

  • Very good programming skills (e.g., Python)

  • Experience with complex software systems and architecture design

  • Ability to think strategically while also developing hands-on

  • Analytical and systemic thinking

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with generative systems and agent-based architectures

  • Background in Operations Research, Computational Design, Industrial Engineering, or Digital Twins

  • Experience with constraint solving, MILP, or heuristic methods

  • Experience in a deep-tech or startup environment

  • Publications or research background

What we offer

  • Direct collaboration with the founders and deep insight into building and scaling a growing deep-tech startup

  • High level of personal responsibility and real impact on strategy, market positioning, and company success

  • The opportunity to actively shape a new technology category in the industrial environment

  • Work in an international, interdisciplinary team with short decision-making paths and open communication culture

  • International enterprise clients and demanding industrial projects

  • Dynamic, innovation-driven environment with a focus on AI, optimization, and design technologies

  • Flexible working hours with results orientation instead of presence culture

  • Remote work possible

  • Modern workplace in the 4th district of Vienna

  • Participation in relevant conferences and industry events

  • Regular team offsites and retreats

  • Flexible vacation policy

  • Laptop and technical equipment of your choice

  • Free snacks and coffee in the office

The minimum salary for this position is based on the collective agreement for employees of companies in the field of services in automatic data processing and information technology and is classified in employment group ST2. A market-conform overpayment is provided depending on qualifications and professional experience.
